QUESTION
What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don't like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!

ANSWER
I absolutely hate it whenever an author writes said over and over again. There are so many other ways to say said, so it really ticks me off whenever that happens. Maybe it's just all those writing lessons on using oher ways to express said, but I seriously hate that. I also hate it when one second they're talking about one thing and then the next they're miles away. This doesn't happen often, but it drives me crazy when it does.

  4. I totally agree. I don't want to be able to notice how many times an author uses a certain word while reading. Said can be very popular too, so its even more noticeable.

  5. Hopping through. I have little pet peeve words. Like using "took place" instead of "occurred." I don't know why it bothers me so much.

  8. I like your pet peeve, because these days I'm always seeing SO many author posts about how you should never use anything BUT said, and it makes me feel paranoid whenever I do so in my own writing ;)

New follower - it's exciting to be in your first ten :D

  12. Welcome to Follow Friday!

Oh I don't think I've seen a lot of "said", although it could be that my brain has been immune to the over use of it=/ Haha I remember when I would have to write a story for homework, I would always try to refrain myself from using "said" all the time!

  13. Yes, it's true. When author repeats the same thing again and again, it can be boring!

  16. I completely agree. The English language is so diverse that it's important to make sure you don't repeat the same word over and over again. Thesauruses exist for a reason!

  18. New follower here :0)

I don't think I've read a book that has used that too many times, but it would annoy me if it did. An author should have a great vocabulary and a way with words. Great answer.

  19. You know, I've never thought about it, but reading said over and over again really is annoying. Writers seem to have decent grasp of the English language, it's not that hard to find a thesaurus. :)

Check out my post if you have the time! And I'm a new follower!

I totally agree with what you're saying, in fact, it goes along with a peeve I have that I forgot to blog about, I hate when the dialogue doesn't sound like what people really talk like. You can check out what I did say in my blog here: http://misclisa.blogspot.com/2011/11/follow-friday-13.html
